Details and power transfer 02/04/2019 I had a conversation with a ham last week who spent his career studying ways to improve RF power transfer. It was pretty interesting listening to him talk about all of the problems his team encountered at GE and some of the solutions they came up with. My take away from the conversation was that each little detail matters because the change in one detail can impact everything down the line as RF travels from transmitter down a piece of coax, through a matching unit, up a coil, and out onto an

Down There - a return to 2200M 01/30/2019 About this time last year, I bought a 300 watt P3000 Hafler amplifier to power my QRP Labs Ultimate 3S transmitter on the 2200M band. On my first attempts at 2200M using a rebuilt Hafler P1500 150 watt amplifier, I got my signal out, but at an estimated 0.4 watts EIRP, my signal was only being heard consistently by a handful of stations every night. All were close in to my QTH. After acquiring the higher power amplifier, I got tied up in the lightbulb experiments and pretty much abandoned

Lightbulb antenna debut at Winter Field Day 2019 01/28/2019 The lightbulb antenna made its winter field day debut at Jackson Park in Hendersonville yesterday. A joint exercise with the Road Show ARC and the Blue Ridge ARC, the event was a big success. I was pleased with how easy it was to erect and deploy the antenna fir 20M, 40M, and 80M. Before the start of WFD, a variety of operators made a total of 96 qso's on FT8 with the distance award going to an Italian station. The highlight of the event, other than the excellent food, was when a reporter
